4 Tips When Installing Nudge Bars on Your Vehicle

Nudge bars are a good accessory to have on a vehicle because they limit how easily your vehicle can be damaged in the event of a minor collision. This article discusses some helpful tips that you should implement as you install this accessory on your vehicle.

Get a Helper

Getting the nudge bars aligned properly on your vehicle requires a high degree of precision and dexterity. This task can be eased if you get someone to help you during the installation project. With his or her help, you can hold up the nudge bars against the vehicle and confirm that the bolt holes on the bars are perfectly aligned with the holes that are found on the body of your vehicle.

Use Penetrating Oil

You may need to remove some of the bolts on your vehicle in order to create room for the bolts that will hold the nudge bars. Existing bolts can often be hard to remove due to rust, corrosion and caked mud. Forcing the bolts out may expose the paintwork of your vehicle to damage by the tools that you are using. The easiest way to get those bolts out is by applying some penetrating oil on them and waiting for a few minutes before you remove the bolts. The oil will break up any rust or dirt on the bolts.

Know the Law

It is usually illegal to obscure the car number plates on your vehicle as you fit any accessories, such as nudge bars. The various lights on the vehicle should also remain without anything to block them. Move a few meters away from your vehicle and check to confirm that the installation hasn't blocked the number plate or lights.

Check the Bonnet

It is advisable for you to delay tightening the bolts holding the nudge bars until you have checked that the bonnet of your car can open effortlessly. Realign the bars in case they were making it hard for the bonnet to open. Perform this same check with the bar that you have installed at the rear of your car. Only tighten the bolts once access to the boot isn't being impeded.

The specific steps that you will need to follow as you install the nudge bars are likely to vary depending on the particular nudge bars that you bought and your model of vehicle. You should take time and familiarise yourself with the installation guidelines provided before you start the actual installation. This will save you from making mistakes that may result in damaging your vehicle.
